CHALLENGES AND OPPORTUNITIES ?
Dread, Obi Nwosu, Emily Chiu, Shah Ramezani (SP)
Laurence Aderemi (MD)
Bitcoin base layer transactions are often being compared with payments via service providers like Visa or PayPal re their cost and efficiency. Why is that and is this even a valid comparison ? The panel will start explaining the layered nature of the traditional financial system, the efficiencies it brings, together with its tradeoffs. The panelists will then discuss how a financial network, built on Bitcoin could look like, taking solutions like Lightning, Fedimint or Taro into account and compare this financial network with traditional financial structures.
Fadi Elsalameen, Roya Al Mahboob, Meron Estefanos, Leopoldo Lopez (SP)
Alex Gladstein (MD)
Bitcoin has revolutionised how people use, access and save money. Bitcoin's capacity to help freedom fighters resist autocratic systems and organize for change is one of its most inspirational use cases. As authoritarian states have weaponized money and financial systems against their people in order to dominate them, Bitcoin is assisting activists in circumventing financial censorship and challenging systems of political oppression accross the globe.

Recent findings are painting another picture: the one where Bitcoin might actually become carbon negative by 2025 through capturing otherwise flared methane gas.
